Favorite scenes from The Originals episode 1×12

Elijah apologizes to Hayley for “neglecting” her

I kind of like Hayley’s sass at the start of this scene. But, most of all, neither one of them came out and said the words, but… The subtext is definitely there. They just sort of told each other that they love each other. I may be reading into it a bit, but… It’s there on their faces. Elijah is afraid to say anything at all, and Hayley just says how much it sucks that they have to stay away from each other because of Klaus. But, the subtext is there, for all the world to see.

Flashback to Marcel coming home from the war

Cami is just adorable at the start of this scene. And I love how, when Marcel says that he kept trying to leave New Orleans behind, but “something kept pulling [him] back”, the camera focuses on Rebekah. Yeah, sure Marcel. Something kept pulling you back. More like some ONE did. And then we get treated to more brotherly banter between Klaus and Elijah, complete with Elijah being all snarky. I just love Elijah’s snark, man.

Elijah questions Thierry

Elijah in “beware the nice ones” mode is… if I’m being honest… sexy as hell. Hayley is just awesome in this scene. And I LOVE how, when Elijah tries to get her to stay behind, her response is that Rebekah is in trouble and she’s going. I LOVE the friendship between Hayley and Rebekah so much. They are adorable. And then Elijah doesn’t even try to argue, just tells her not to leave his sight. His need to protect her is just… *Flails*

Elijah and Hayley save Rebekah

The conversation with Sophie is hilarious. And I love how Klaus ran to Marcel’s rescue. But, the best part, is Hayley. She doesn’t even hesitate. Elijah needs her blood to save Rebekah, she holds out her wrist. No questions, no hesitations. She is awesome.

Elijah watching Hayley

It’s ridiculously short, less than a minute. But, just look at his face. And, for one second, he starts to move towards her, and then stops. He wants so badly to go to her. And I am just yelling “do it! Go to her! You know you want to!” But, of course he doesn’t. Because he is an idiot. Also, this scene makes me kind of angry at Rebekah. Yes, she was hurt about Elijah, once again, putting what is best for Klaus above what is best for her. But, she didn’t need to drag Hayley into that argument. I think that had she not given Elijah that line about how his feelings for Hayley were going to destroy the family, he would have gone to Hayley, here. So, yeah… pardon me while I smack Elijah and REBEKAH for a bit.

Weirdly enough, considering how many scenes I have on here, this is not really one of my favorite episodes. There were a lot of little things I liked. Every bloody time Elijah and Hayley were in the same room together, for starters. But, really, this episode was good for the relationships between Hayley and Elijah, and Rebekah and Marcel, but the rest I thought was kind of… meh. Didn’t much care for most of the plot, this episode. I was just here for the ships.

Favorite scenes from The Originals episode 1×11

Elijah and Klaus

In all honesty, I just love Elijah’s snark, here. He can be such a smart-ass, sometimes. And the fact that he’s being snarky in a bout of brotherly banter with Klaus just makes it that much better.

Davina’s earthquake

Another scene where the reason I love it is such a little thing. Sophie is freaking out, and the Mikaelsons just calmly sit there – through an earthquake. Because Sophie can die, and they can’t. They can afford to be blase about it. (Though, they might have been slightly more concerned had it occurred to them that they may be immortal, but Hayley is not.)

Klaus and Hayley bring food to the church for the werewolves

Argh! I can’t find a clip of this one, which annoys me. Anyway, I like Klaus’s concern for Hayley when she’s getting things together, not wanting her going out in this. And the way he just picks everything up when she reminds him that her people are stuck out there. We get to see Klaus’s good side, here. He’s doing something nice for other people, not out of hopes of gaining something for himself, but just because it’s the right thing to do. But, my favorite part is him telling Hayley not to give up on Elijah. Here is where KLAUS starts to ship Haylijah, and I love it.

Elijah’s plan to have Esther consecrated

Elijah calmly suggesting letting Sophie consecrate Esther to give her the ability to finish the Harvest and stop what is happening to New Orleans. But, what I love about it is that this is the first time we get to see him use political influence to get what he wants. Foreshadowing for one of my favorite scenes from 2×01. And then we get Klaus’s smart-ass remark at the end about fetching their mother. I just love these two.

Davina deciding to go through with the Harvest

This is one of the saddest scenes in the entire series. But, no matter how you feel about Davina, you almost have to be proud of her in this moment. She’s only sixteen. And she is probably the first Harvest Girl in HISTORY to truly give her life willingly, to actually be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the city. I can’t stop crying.

Klaus comforts Marcel

Starting with Davina calmly saying that she believes and letting herself be sacrificed. Then Sophie’s reaction when it didn’t work. Say what you want about Sophie’s methods, but if there had ever been any doubt about WHY she did what she did, watching her break down here put them to rest. And then we get to Marcel losing it, and Klaus comforting him. You realize that Davina was more than a weapon and a bargaining chip. He loved that girl like she was his daughter. And Klaus saw it, and compared what Marcel is going through with his own reaction to thinking that MARCEL had died the last time they saw each other. It was just so beautiful and heartbreaking. And amazingly acted by everyone involved.

Yet another almost-kiss

I wanted to smack these two at the end of this scene. Hayley is over here telling Elijah that when she feels something she acts, and when she wants something she takes it. And I am yelling “so then kiss him, already!” And then ELIJAH stops her from walking away. HE is the one that initiated the almost-kiss. And then pulled away at the last possible second, because he’s an idiot. It’s a good thing Hayley loves him, or she might have washed her hands of him right then, afraid of getting hurt because he can’t seem to figure out what he wants.

This is another favorite episode of mine. As can be guessed from having SEVEN scenes in this blog post. It was an emotional roller coaster. From snarky fun to emotional breakdowns, to an almost-kiss that had me screaming. Ending with a major reveal, that I straight-up can’t remember if I was actually surprised by. Fun episode, all around.

Favorite scenes from The Originals episode 1×10

Elijah helps Hayley with her dress

Okay, let me just start by saying that I love Elijah in his suits, but that dressed down look he’s sporting here is sexy as hell. Probably made all the sexier by the fact that it’s unusual for him. Anyway… Dear Gods, the way he looks at her. He can’t stop smiling, and it is freaking adorable. And his look of disappointment when she hesitated when he offered to take her out that night. Followed by the smile coming back when her reason was just not wanting to cause problems between him and Klaus. And then we get to him unzipping the dress he just helped her zip up. Pretty sure she didn’t need him to undo the whole thing. And he certainly could have managed a zipper without looking at it. Plus, look at the way she closed her eyes. These two haven’t even KISSED yet, and they were both imagining him taking that dress completely off of her, you could just tell. Dayum, these two are so hot. (Just ignore the bit after that. This clip splices that scene with like the last scene in the episode. Interesting scene, but has nothing to do with this one. (Though, Elijah telling Hayley that he’s “better now” when she walks into the room WAS kind of adorable.))

Josh talks to Klaus on the phone

I can’t find a clip of this one. But it’s hilarious. Klaus calls Josh, who tries to claim that he’s moved to Turkey – while the casket girls festival is going on right outside his window. And, bear in mind, he’s talking to KLAUS. A normal human being could probably hear that festival through the phone. No way in Hell Klaus doesn’t. I love Josh, so much.

Josh tells Davina not to hold back

https://youtu.be/RTpwPUyq8Gs

Here is Josh’s loyalty, again. This time, to Davina. He knows that if Davina manages to kill Klaus, he’ll die too. And he doesn’t tell her. Because he wants her to be safe. And he’s willing to die for that safety. He’s willing to die for HER. Scenes like this one are why he’s one of my favorite characters.

Davina takes on Klaus, Elijah, and Marcel

There were no clips that combined both parts of this scene. So, had to use two of them. Anyway. As much as I love Elijah, and hate to see anything bad happen to him, Davina was awesome in this scene. The girl made THE original hybrid start to transition. I really think that she might have pulled off killing them, if she had really wanted to. I’m glad that she didn’t obviously, but it was kind of awe-inspiring to watch, anyway. And then Rebekah comes in with her girl power mantra, and probably actually saves everyone. Also, kudos to Claire Holt (I can’t credit the writers, because this has been done the wrong way on The Vampire Diaries, so many times). Rebekah caught Tim the right way. She didn’t do the usual movie/tv thing of him slamming into her arms three feet above the ground somehow didn’t kill him. She kept him moving, and just slowed his momentum down before setting him on the ground. You rarely see that done properly.

So, those are my favorite scenes. Obviously any decent Haylijah scene would make the cut. And I do love Josh to bits. Davina being a total badass, and Rebekah being awesome finish it up.

Favorite scenes from The Originals episode 1×09

Klaus and Cami telling Marcel about her role in Klaus’s game

Cami is just too much fun, here. The way she has no trouble telling Klaus off cracks me up. She knows, not only how powerful he is, but also how ruthless. She knows damn well that he not only CAN kill her in a heartbeat, but that he wouldn’t hesitate to do so if it suited his purpose. And she always speaks her mind, anyway. And then we get Klaus making jokes. I love Klaus’s sense of humor. So much fun.

Hayley asking Rebekah and Elijah to save the wolves

Hayley doesn’t even know yet that she’s an Alpha. And she’s already acting like their Queen. And of course, she’s smart enough to play the one card that even Rebekah can’t refute – family. She knows Rebekah well enough at this point that she knows that pointing out that these people are her family will get Rebekah on board. Because family is the one thing that Rebekah will always fight for, no matter what. Of course, Elijah would need no coaxing. He’ll do just about anything for Hayley – even if neither of them is willing to admit that, yet.

Klaus, Marcel, and Kieran

Marcel certainly knows how to push Klaus’s buttons. Though, watching him use that knowledge to keep Klaus from hurting Kieran was pretty awesome. But, the best part of this scene is “how do you expect me to remake the mayor?” It seems that Cami’s snark and take no bullshit tendencies very much run in the family.

Elijah and Rebekah stopping the wolf hunt

Aaahhh!!!! Rebekah teasing Elijah about Hayley. Elijah’s smiles every time Hayley is mentioned – Rebekah doesn’t even need to say her name. He knows who she’s talking about, and it makes him smile. “It’s complicated” along with that damned smile! HE JUST ADMITTED TO REBEKAH THAT HE HAS FEELINGS FOR HAYLEY AND OMFG! And then we get to Elijah being such a badass that he doesn’t even need to DO anything. He just reminds the vampires about how his “baby brother” handed their asses to them despite even greater odds and they fucking RUN.

Klaus sends Cami away

Starting with him asking Kieran for help saving his and Hayley’s people – from the orders he himself gave. For all that he told Rebekah and Elijah that family is overrated, he does care about these people and needs to keep them safe. And then we get Cami’s reaction to the visions Klaus gave her. She doesn’t cower in fear of the monster that he is. She sympathizes with her first glimpse at WHY he’s the way that he is. Sending her away was quite possibly the hardest thing Klaus has ever had to do. But, for once, he put somebody else ahead of himself. He will protect her at all costs – even if that means never seeing her again.

Elijah and Hayley almost kiss. Elijah apologizes to Klaus

I wanted to scream watching this scene. I actually DID yell “kiss, kiss, kiss” at the tv the first time I saw it. You KNOW they both want to. And just the way Elijah smiles when he tells Hayley that the wolves are safe can melt your heart. Rebekah was right, while doing the right thing was certainly a point – Elijah wanted to “impress the girl”. He was so proud of being able to tell her that her family would be okay. And his heartfelt apology to Klaus, and Klaus’s equally heartfelt acceptance of that apology was just beautiful. Rebekah is going to be pissed about losing Marcel, but the brothers have mended the rift and once again become a united front.

And then there’s Davina and Cami. As much as I love Cami, and ship Klamille, and am happy that Cami is staying… I kind of hate Davina in this scene. After Klaus so heartbreakingly put Cami’s safety first and sent her away for her own protection, even though that hurt him… Davina comes in and rips it all away just so that she can have someone to help her deal with her problems. Gotta keep reminding myself that she’s 16, and thinking that the world revolves around you is normal at that age…

Favorite scenes from The Originals episode 1×08

Hayley taking care of Elijah

I doubt anyone has taken care of Elijah since he was a child. Watching him not know what to do with someone trying to do so now is kind of fun. The jokes about annihilating Klaus made me laugh. But, really… Just… Hayley’s refusal to leave him. Her reassuring him that she’s here, and he’s going to be okay. It was so beautiful. And his reaction to realizing that he had called Hayley “Celeste” was kind of cute, too.

Marcel and Rebekah make plans to take down Klaus

First of all, Tyler is one of several characters who my opinion of changes depending on which show I’m watching. I started watching The Originals, first. After watching three seasons, I decided to watch The Vampire Diaries before coming back to The Originals. I grew to like Tyler on TVD. But, man did I despise the little punk on TO. And in this scene, I was really wishing that Rebekah had just ripped his heart out instead of just snapping his neck. But, gotta love “Auntie Beks” looking out for her niece. “That’s enough talk about harming that baby.” You go girl!

Cami giving Klaus a piece of her mind

I love Cami. And her telling Klaus off, here, is really the start of her real character arc. This is where she starts becoming his conscience. And every word she says here, is 100% true. Watching her – a normal human woman with NOTHING on her side – stand up and tell off the single most powerful being on the planet is kind of awesome. She is taking no shit. And I love it. Here’s to Cami – the badass normal. Using her brains to hold her own against Klaus fucking Mikaelson.

Josh the double agent

Watching poor Josh act out his own private spy movie is kind of hilarious. The poor kid is in way over his head. And, since I love him, I want to feel bad for him. But, all I can do is sit here and laugh.

Klaus fighting Marcel’s army

Klaus is such a badass. Yes, I spent large portions of the first two seasons hating him for the way he treated Elijah and Hayley, but that doesn’t change anything. He is still a badass. And the music in this scene is incredible. Add in Rebekah realizing how totally screwed they are and basically saving Marcel’s life… So freaking perfect.

Elijah shows Hayley what happened to Celeste

Gods! These two are just made for each other! Can we just discuss the part at the end? Elijah literally admitted to having feelings for Hayley but that he needs to stay away to protect her. I want to cry. Fuck Klaus and his bullshit! I just want my babies to be happy.

Whoo! I ended up with a lot of scenes this time! But, there was a lot of my favorite characters showing WHY I love them so much. I liked this episode. Though not the fact that the conversation Hayley and Elijah have in that last clip is probably a big part of why I still have to wait more than TEN MORE EPISODES to see the first Haylijah kiss. It should have happened right there, in that car. They both wanted it, but Elijah has to be all noble. Sigh…

Favorite scenes from episode 1×07 of The Originals

Klaus and Elijah looking for Hayley

I do love me some sibling banter between the Mikaelsons. And Elijah’s reactions to Klaus’s story about Tyler are hilarious. Only thing that would have made this better is if Elijah had punched Klaus for that bit about Hayley at the end. I was waiting for it, let me tell you.

Davina and Josh

Oh man! Davina and Josh are my BrOTP! Next to Haylijah, their friendship is the thing about this show that most gives me life. Here is the start of the single most uncomplicated relationship in the entire TVD universe. With each other, they can be just two kids trying to hold on in a world gone mad. I love them so much.

Hayley’s escape from Tyler

Let’s start with the moment Hayley realized that Dwayne was Sired to HER. Using Tyler’s own ploy for power against him was kind of beautiful. Though not nearly as beautiful as… well… JUST LOOK AT THAT SCREENCAP! The way Hayley threw her arms around him… that was not a frightened kidnapping victim happy to be rescued. That was a woman happy to see this particular man. And Elijah? He is feeling the same way. Just look at him. His eyes are closed, his hand is in her hair. And he is holding her SO tight. Yeah… these two are just… *Flails*

This episode was a bit of a step down from the last one. But, that one had set the bar pretty high, including one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. But, we got some fun banter between Elijah and Klaus, a nice Haylijah scene, and the start of the Bromance to end all Bromances. Plus, you know, some heavy plot-related things. Including a bit of foreshadowing of the end of the season – if you’ve already seen the end of the season and know what they’re foreshadowing, that is.

Favorite scenes from The Originals episode 1×06

Vampire book club

Everything about this clip is just gold. The passive-aggressive banter between Elijah and Klaus. Elijah’s apparent actual concern about the carpet. THE WAY ELIJAH LOOKED AT HAYLEY WHEN SHE WALKED PAST, OMG. Hayley taking out ice cream and something else unhealthy for breakfast, and Elijah just casually putting it back and making her a bowl of cereal and glass of orange juice. Rebekah casually telling them to “add bleach” to the grocery list – and then equally casually dragging a dead body out the door. “Who do we have to kill?” “Probably no one.” Beat. “Okay, potentially everyone.” And Hayley’s smile at that.

Hayley starts being affected by the cursed needle

https://youtu.be/iu2NH6Nzv9c

Have I mentioned how much I love the friendship between Hayley and Rebekah? Those two are too much fun together. And Rebekah’s concern for Hayley is so heartwarming. And then there’s Klaus’s reaction to finding out that the witch who did this is the same one who cursed Sean. I honestly believe that his wanting Agnes dead is as much for Cami’s sake as for the baby’s.

“Just focus on the sound of my voice”

Oh, be still my Haylijah-shipping heart. I don’t remember when I started shipping them the first time I watched this show. But, if it wasn’t at the end of the last episode, then it was this scene, right here. Elijah just jumps into the pool in his suit to take care of Hayley. The way he holds her. The quote I’m tagging this scene with. JUST LOOK AT THE WAY THEY’RE LOOKING AT EACH OTHER IN THAT SCREENCAP. You almost expect them to kiss, right there in front of Sophie and Rebekah. This is the moment that Rebekah realizes that they have feelings for each other, too. Check out the look on her face.

But, there’s also more to it. Speaking of Rebekah’s expressions, there’s her obvious relief when the spell works and Hayley is safe. And the sheer joy Davina feels when she gets the spell to work. She doesn’t even know that she’s just saved a life. She’s just so happy and proud of herself and fricking adorable.

Elijah kills Agnes

Elijah is just such a badass in this scene. Scenes like this one are where the saying “beware the nice ones” come from. And Klaus knew. The moment Elijah said that he had promised that Agnes wouldn’t die at his brother’s hands. Look at his face. He knew in that moment that Elijah was using an exact words loophole, and was about to kill the witch himself.

This episode is my favorite so far. Haylijah is getting awfully hot for a couple that hasn’t even had their first kiss, yet. You can cut the sexual tension between them with a knife. The siblings are incredible. And that contrast between Elijah being so sweet and gentle with Hayley and then a total badass with Agnes. Damn, that man is sexy as hell!

Favorite scenes from The Originals episode 1×05

Hayley insisting on going with Sophie to the bayou

I just love when Hayley is in a “I’m not taking shit from anyone” kind of mood. She’s so much fun. And the looks of resignation on Rebekah’s and Sophie’s faces – complete with Sophie rolling her eyes – were priceless. And then, it gets followed up with Rebekah’s call to Klaus. Which was hilarious on both sides. Just a fun little scene.

Elijah offering Davina Esther’s grimoires

Elijah being both honorable and manipulative at the same time is always entertaining. He is being manipulative as hell in this scene, and Davina can’t even see it. Because nobody expects it of him. He’s the honorable one. People tend to forget that while you can certainly trust him to keep his end of any bargain he makes, that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t arranged the terms of the deal so that he comes out ahead.

Elijah’s return

*Flails* Okay. So. First, we have more bonding between Rebekah and Hayley. Rebekah is obviously coming to care for Hayley on her own, not just for Elijah’s sake. That may still be more because of the baby than for herself, but still. Hayley is becoming family. And then Elijah walks in. The way he looks at Hayley… Even Klaus sees it. He is being welcomed home by his little sister, but he only has eyes for Hayley. To the point that when she walks out of the room, he ignores his siblings and follows her. And then isn’t at all upset when she slaps him, not only understanding that it was because she was worried about him, but seeming to be pleased about her concern. Ladies and gentlemen, Haylijah is ON.

What can I say? Elijah is back, Haylijah is on, the Mikaelson siblings are a united front, again. Let the games begin. Also, pray for me trying to come up with my favorite scenes from here until about the middle of season 4, because… it just gets better from here.

Favorite scenes from The Originals episode 1×04

Davina’s day out

Whatever else she may be, Davina is also a sixteen year old girl. And her scenes with Marcel and Cami during her day out exemplify that. For one day, she gets to not be this super-powerful witch under the protection of the leader of the local vampires. For one day, she gets to be a typical sixteen year old girl, just trying to have some fun. Marcel acting like an over-protective father, and Cami teasing her about the boy like an older sister just adds to the fun.

Elijah making Rebekah promise to take care of Hayley and the baby

I love Elijah’s concern for Hayley, here. Made even more interesting by what Rebekah didn’t catch. Klaus was almost an afterthought. Elijah’s concern is for Hayley and her baby. And note that every time he mentions the baby, it is in reference to Hayley. The fact that this baby is also Klaus’s is barely a consideration. And “she’s family now”… *Swoons*. Hayley may not be in the scene, but I think it counts as a Haylijah scene. Because Elijah is coming to care for her as a person.

Rebekah saving Hayley

First of all, these two are just badass. Second, I love the whole “girl power” vibe. But, mostly, I love Hayley and Rebekah as friends. It’s something we just don’t get to see enough of on the show. But, the two of them looking out for each other was awesome.

Hayley’s return after the witches attacked

So much beauty in this scene. Klaus’s concern for Hayley. The realization that the baby healed Hayley. Klaus’s reaction to that. Klaus wanting to kill Agnes for hurting Hayley and his child. Rebekah’s insinuation that Elijah just might make him get in line. The look on Hayley’s face when Rebekah said that Elijah asked for them to keep Hayley safe… Oh, that smile. That sweet, lovestruck smile… “I’ve gotcha love. I’ve got you.” Again, I have never shipped Klayley, but Klaus being sweet to Hayley still melts my heart, every time.

Elijah wakes up

Have I mentioned that Elijah is my favorite character? Because he is. So, there is no way that a list of my favorite scenes from this episode could be complete without his return. It’s short, and not much happens in it. But… Hell yes! Elijah is back!

This was a fun episode. I just love the way the characters interact with each other. And things are really starting to pick up in terms of plot.

Favorite scenes from The Originals episode 1×03

Klaus, Rebekah, and Hayley discussing the plan to get Elijah back

Where to begin? The sibling banter between Klaus and Rebekah is too much fun. Klaus bantering with Hayley the way he does with Rebekah even more so. This is the start of the sibling-like relationship they eventually develop and it is so cute. Plus, Hayley is starting to come into her own. This is the Hayley Marshall I come to love, she doesn’t take shit from anyone – not even the Original vampires who could end her in a heartbeat. Such a fun scene.

Rebekah stopping Sophie from finishing the locator spell

I can’t find a video of this scene. But, I love that even with Elijah basically being held hostage, Rebekah put Hayley and the baby first. Sophie was willing to keep trying, even with knowing that now she can be caught. But, Rebekah wouldn’t allow it, because if Marcel kills Sophie, Hayley dies too. And I have to love Auntie Rebekah looking out for her little nibling.

Hayley telling Klaus they’re having a girl

I kind of get a kick out of Hayley apparently using Elijah’s journals to get to know him. Even Klaus notices that she just seems drawn to him. But, what makes this scene one of my favorites is Klaus’s smile at the end. He’s just tickled at the thought of having a daughter. It’s so darn cute to watch Klaus start looking forward to being a father, not because of what this child might give him in terms of leverage and power – but just because he wants this baby.

So, there you go. There were other fun scenes, but I find myself more drawn to the scenes that are about the family dynamic.
